There are many avenues that you can take to learn how to sell crafts. You can go to craft shows in your local area, sell them at a flea type market, place classified ads in your local newspaper, or even sell your crafts online.
Selling at a local craft show – Many times you can find local craft shows that are taking place in your town or towns nearby. The easiest way to find out this information is to visit your towns community website. They should have a list of upcoming events for the season.
If you are considering selling your crafts at local craft stores then you need to be prepared to pay money for your booth. Also, many of the craft shows have an application process you need to go through so they can determine if what you make will fit in with what they are striving to achieve with their craft show.
Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get registered for upcoming craft shows.
How to sell crafts at flea markets – Selling your craft at a flea market is another route you can go to sell your crafts. Most flea markets will let you rent out a booth for the weekend and some will make you sign a contract for renting a booth for a few months at a time. The reason for this is because if they are not able to fill up their booths, it’s not worth running the flea market.
Selling your craft using classified ads – You may also choose to sell your craft by taking ads out in your local papers. This one is a bit harder to do because people generally can not see what it is you are selling and the ads you place will generally be small. The upside to this is that you are able to sell your craft out of your home without lugging a ton of things to and from a booth. It is also cheaper then renting a booth in a craft fair or flea market.
Selling your crafts online – More and more this is becoming the preferred method to selling your craft. The reason for this is because you can set up your craft store for almost no money so it is much cheaper to do then the other methods. You can have pictures of your craft in your online store so your customer can see just what it is that you are selling. Plus you can do this from out of your house with nothing more then a computer and basic camera.
If learning how to sell crafts online is something you would be interested in then I would recommend that you look into Etsy.com. The reason for this is because they are geared towards crafters. In fact, if what you are selling is not handmade, vintage, or supplies for crafters you can not even build a store there. Etsy is also very inexpensive. To list a craft in your store for three months it costs .20.
